With ‘DISCO SUCKS’ banners lining the stadium, the destruction sparked a near-riot on the field that ensured primetime news coverage. Orchestrated by local radio host Steve Dahl, the night that came to be known ‘Disco Demolition Day’ saw the destruction of over 20,000 disco records during a baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. On the night of July 12, 1979, ‘the death of disco’ was declared from Comiskey Park, Chicago.
